Op weg naar een betere toekomst

Onze partner Education First Foundation ondersteunt ongeveer 150 studenten.

“Ishwor is learning how to cook in Mustang

Ishwor, 20 years old now, was enrolled in the children’s home that was run by FIFON (partner NGO of SVN) in Barabhise - Sindhupalchok when he was 5 years old. At that time, he was in kindergarten in Ketu School. After the demise of his father, his mother eloped with another man and left the boy with his grandparents. She never came back into contact with Ishwor or any other family members. It was difficult for the elder grandparents to take care of him and through local contacts, he was admitted in the children’s home. He continued his education while staying in the children’s home till grade 6, when he was about 13 years old. In 2013, he came into contact with Education First Foundation (EFF). EFF has first priority to place students under guardianship of parents or family members, so they started looking for family members of Ishwor who could take the boy into their care and family. The younger sister of Ishwor’s father seemed the best choice and several meetings took place to discuss the possibility of placing Ishwor in her family and under her guardianship. Finally, Kalpana – Ishwor’s aunt – agreed to give the boy a home and as incentive, EFF would support his education. Unfortunately, studying was a challenge for Ishwor and he didn’t perform very well. In 2017, he came to Kathmandu along with his aunt and he was admitted in grade 9. He completed grade 10 in 2018. Due to his lower grades and lack of interest to study, vocational training was the best option for him and he is currently studying culinary arts, an 18 month technical course (12 months theory and 6 months internship) at Dhaulagiri technical School in Lete, Mustang. After he finishes his studies, he will be able to work in a restaurant or hotel to provide him an income for a brighter future!”
